Job Title: Camp Program Director

Reports to: Camp Director/Executive Director

Leadership Level: Team Leader

Primary Function/Department: Youth Development

Hourly Rate: $17.00/hr.; Average 35-40 hours a week.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Camp Program Director at the Cortland YMCA oversees the development and operations of our summer camp program, and designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.

OUR CAMP:
The Cortland County Family YMCA Adventure summer camp runs nine weeks, from July 1st through August 30th. We average 30-35 campers a week, plus an additional eight campers a week for our tween program (new this year). There will be seven or eight staff members running the camp, including the program director. Additional staff include the camp nurse, camp administrator, and camp director. Camp programming features daily swimming (and weekly swimming lessons), rock wall activities, walks to parks and community events, regular field trips, music, skits, sports, STEM, and exciting weekly themes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

2. Recruits and hires diverse staff. On-boards and develops them for success.

3. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

4. Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.

5. Helps to create friendly, inclusive environment for campers of all abilities, and works with parents to create successful summer camp experiences for all campers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
* One to two years related experience preferred.
* Minimum age of 21.
* Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, and Blood borne Pathogens training.
* Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
